Iwas surprised to see the extension one the filter. I’m appears to pop in, and my new cap was slightly different. I reused the old cap, which was ok. But the next time I plan on using the new cap, thus I’ll have to order the valve assembly. It seems the new cap is a better design, less chance of breaking the valve assembly.

Thankyou for the suggestion about the spool valve. I found a separate thread and a VW Tech Tip #10-18-01TT on the topic. But one major difference is that this Passat engine makes noise only After it has warmed up 5+ minutes and then stays, while the tech tip addresses a rattle at cold start that goes away.

Put the car up and removed the lower sound shield (belly pan) and oil pan insulation (both wet with coolant). Coolant is dripping off the oil pan after running down the front of the GNiQW.
